a good candidate
Is he really? First Round George. He's a decent candidate, but he doesn't make a contender by any stretch, which is supposedly the point.

For everyone saying fire Monty, before you jump the gun on saying that, remember this is the same guy that took the CP3 and nobodies to the playoffs and took the Lakers to 6 games.
OMG!...give him a lifetime contract!!
...and we won two against the Lakers because Chris Paul went absolutely bonkers a few times...you give Monty too much credit.
quote:
Aminu is a defensive beast, though his offensive game needs lots of improvement but defense and rebounding is solid.
he's horrible

Austin Rivers is way more confident than he was a year ago and that's credit to the HC for working with him.

A healthy Pelicans team with a year playing together will do wonders for the YOUNG GUYS, they will continue to grow under Monty, Jrue, AD and Rhyno are building blocks, add a solid center with an offensive game to take pressure off AD an I see these guys competing with OKC in the west!! One more year guys if he fails then It is what it is.
...if/when healthy, and IF Monty puts our best players on the court, this team can do some winning...we could definitely be a top scoring team in the league, and you can win a lot of games like that
9 of the top 10 leaders in PPG are playoff teams this season...MIN being the exception.
...Monty needs to get out of the way of that and make it work for his players, not make his players work around his garbage system.

I'm confused how you interpret this

Perhaps the system isn't garbage and would work if he wasn't being forced to play with trash players. Ever thought about that?

Lopez went from bench player in Phoenix, to a starter for playoff team. IMPROVEMENT

Aminu is the best rebounding SF in the league. IMPROVEMENT
...still horrible.

We signed Anderson at market value, some even said we overpaid. Now he has one of the best contracts in the league that teams are constantly looking to trade for. IMPROVEMENT
...has been mostly the same...he has been doing what he did in Orlando with more minutes and as being more of a focal point in the offense.

Rivers from worst season ever to quality back up. IMPROVEMENT
no...and still horrible.

it hasn't.

What did Thibs do last year w out Rose, Deng, a one legged Noah? He gave the Heat all they wanted with Nate Robinson, Marco, and Jimmy Butler.
ya, doing one hell of a job this year too...incredible that they're the #4 seed and 8-2 in their last 10, and only missing the former MVP...no big deal.

Part of the reason that the the screams of Fire Monty are so loud is because a good candidate has been campaigning for the job all season. I'm kind of interested in Hoiberg too. If the short list began and ended with Avery Johnson, I don't think as many people would be on board.
+1
Karl is the perfect coach for our roster...he won 57 games just 1 season ago...we will score a lot of points...his style fits our players.
Lawson
Iguodala
Gallinari
Faried
Mosgov
Holiday
Gordon
Evans
Anderson
Davis
...and even with our injuries, I have no doubt that Karl would do a good job with the hand he's dealt...please make it happen.

Vasquez has. Minutes helped that along. Jason Smith has developed a nice 18' jumper. His defense is atrocious.

First Round George
That's a bit of a misleading characterization of him. Yes he's had a lot of first round exits, but he's made it past the first round 8 times, to the Conference finals 4 times, and to the Finals once.

he doesn't make a contender by any stretch
He's a stop gap solution because of his age, but he's only missed the playoffs once since 1992. If Monty is also a stop gap solution because he's not good enough, and who you can attract as the next HC will be largely influenced by how successful the team is in the next 2-3 years, I'd rather take my chances with Karl establishing the Pels as a solid playoff team than Monty. If you're going to take a chance on a young guy you should do it now. If you're not, then you want the coaches looking to jump ship (what Doc Rivers just did and Thibbs could possibly be next), or ready to come back into the league like SVG, interested in the job. I just think Karl can make the team more attractive assuming you get him to agree to a predetermined time table/succession plan.

AD: Was going to progress with a monkey coaching RYNO: In his best orlando season, he shot 0.1% higher than this year, -1.6 3pt%, +1.2rpg, and played 4 minutes less. I.E. no improvement Aminu: still sucks Rivers: still horrible, just not as horrible
All of this.
If AD had been playing more than 29mpg his rookie year, the improvement wouldnt have been as significant as it is stat wise. And most players improve from their 1st year to 2nd year.
Anderson - been the same player hes always been.
Aminu - Sucks. Yea hes a good rebounder. Awesome. a SF that is just a rebounder. And hes always been a solid rebounder. Monty has nothing to do with that.
Rivers - 1st year averaged 6.2ppg, 1.8rebs, and 2 assists. This year hes averaging 6.5ppg, 1.4rebs, and 1.6 assists. Yeah hes really improved.... And this is the guy Monty had to have with the 10th overall pick.
2010 - 2011 we went 46 - 36. It was Montys 1st year. He inherited a team that had CP3, David West, Ariza, Landry, Belli, Okafor, Jack, and Thornton. Monty had nothing to do with those guys "development" or anything like that. He inherited a talented roster with the best PG in the game.
2011 - 2012 we went 21 - 45 (31.8 %).
2012 - 2013 we went 27 - 55 (32.9%)
This year so far we are 24 - 37 (39.3%). Stay on that rate, we will finish 32 - 53.
Yeah... this team has really improved.... Montys gotta go.

...they were the #3 seed in the West last season with a young team and no star player...a big time player like AD makes a big difference....and they lost to a very good Warriors team.
...not to mention, he coached contending teams in Seattle in 1996, Milwaukee in 2001, and in Denver in 2008-09.

it hasn't worked yet...it's been multiple seasons...Thibs, Pops, and Karl's systems can work even with depleted rosters.
Posted on 3/6/14 at 3:14 pm to drake20
Karl coached that Nuggets team to 57 wins last year, I have no doubt he could work wonders with our guys. The whole "first round exit" criticism is way overblown.

Actually, the GM makes picks. That one is one your beloved Demps.

Monty was reportedly the one lobbying hard for Rivers.
And his point was, Rivers hasn't really progressed all that much.
