A few short clips below from a sports business podcast. TL;DR DirecTV is talking with the NBA and wants them to do what MLB is doing and taking back the local rights and work directly with distributors like DirecTV for local rights.

The guy from DirecTV says the situation is pretty fluid and nobody knows what's going to happen. Not really new news, but one more thing suggesting the league might try to take over managing local rights in 2 years when they rework the national TV deal.

As RSNs continue to struggle, DirecTV is pushing for a "league-driven model" like MLB is pursuing.

DirecTV currently is talking with the NBA about pursuing a league-driven model for the league's local rights.

This is insanely obvious. The current model is stupid as hell and only benefits teams like the Knicks or Lakers.

This would be absolutely amazing and would immensely help balance out spending power among teams.
