Interesting article by Tom Haberstroh discussing something I have often wondered about. Do deep 3's (30') give you better second chance opportunities because of the long rebounds?

The BOGO 3
quote:

But here’s the fascinating trend that will change the way you watch the upcoming playoffs: Because of the hidden value of more second-chance opportunities, Logo 3s are far more effective than they appear to be by looking at raw field-goal percentage. Due to the laws of physics, teams get second-chance opportunities on Logo 3s at a much higher rate. So much so that Logo 3s are turning into BOGO 3s: Buy one, get one free.

Steph Curry has nothing on Trae Young's range.

ETA: people do not understand ridiculous hyperbole apparently.

Haberstroh came out and said the effect wasn't as great as originally thought. From his Twitter

This story has been updated with an important data refresh from the researchers. BOGO 3 effect not as strong as originally observed! (Play-by-play data is notoriously tricky y’all) https://t.co/2FrnmT0CWA

Still an interesting idea and the spacing is tantalizing.

This piece from the Ringer on the primacy of the 3 is a good companion read
