Another Pelicans star could've been involved in a league-altering trade this offseason if not for one simple reason: Jrue Holiday was not on the trade table.

The Los Angeles Clippers inquired about a potential trade for the Pelicans' star guard before they gave up a massive haul for Oklahoma City Thunder guard Paul George, but were rebuffed, according to a report from ESPN.

The Clippers were seeking to add a second star to lure Kawhi Leonard from the NBA champion Toronto Raptors. They also inquired about Washington Wizards shooting guard Bradley Beal before eventually landing a successful package for George and agreeing to a deal with Leonard Friday evening.

I wouldn't have traded him, but would've at least listened to the offer

Would you guys have taken SGA & 3 future 1st rounders for Jrue? ‘22, ‘24 & ‘26 . PG & Kawhi would be 35 & 36 respectfully in ‘26 with injury history

That's tempting, but losing jrue would be a monumental loss from a leadership and culture perspective.

We need some adults in the room.

Also a real bad look to declare that it's Jrue's team, and then trade him 2 weeks later for future assets.

This tells me conversation with Kawhi went like this....

Clippers: What do we need to do to get you to sign?

Kawhi: Get another All Star player

Clippers: Like who?

Kawhi: Jrue Holiday or Paul George

In a vacuum yes. With all the talk from griffin about Jrue and trying to establish a culture probably not.

When you put it like this, nah. I think Jrue’s leadership, the way he takes care of his body & on court performance would be more valuable than late 1st rounders & SGA.

.. But I would talk to Utah & see how they feel about Donovan Mitchell. They seem like they’re built to win now. If we could get Mitchell & short term cap filler for Jrue & a Pick or 2 i’d probably do it. That or Brad Beal. This is Jrue’s team for a year, maybe two. It could be Zion, Donovan (Beal), Lonzo & BI for the next 10.

LMAO

Some of you guys really make me wonder. Wow. I know fans can be homers but some of you guys are nuts.

“Settling” on PG13 hahaha

Jrue is an awesome player, really talented, mature, solid.

PG13 is a perennial MVP candidate and a top 6-10 player in the NBA. Jrue is not even in his universe.

They fact that you think we could trade a Jrue for SGA and 3 first round picks is delusional.

Honestly

Yes.

It’s not a popular opinion but if anyone honestly games out Zion and Jrue’s time table, it is going to be problematic.

Jrue’s contract is up in a couple seasons. He will be 31, if we re-sign him it is likely going to be at the top of the market again, which means a notable salary increase, probably for 4 years.

Is a 30 million plus a year, mid-thirties Jrue Holiday where you want your money as Zion is entering the prime of his second, prove-to-me contract?

I like Jrue, but if that is the offer I would have taken it....I doubt it was the offer though.

How is it delusional? It was a discussion lol. If PG gets you Gall, SGA & 5 picks... you don’t think Jrue can get you AT LEAST SGA & 3 1st ? Not saying do it , but would you entertain the offer is all I’m asking

You've got to see what Griff is trying to do though. Hes trying to build a culture.. trading Jrue after all hes said about Jrue this offseason would look terrible to every agent/player out there.

Why the hell would the Wizards turn down that package for Beal?

I doubt they were offering vast much for Beal as they did for PG.
