There's multiple layers to do this, it doesn't need anesthesia or a major surgery either.

The ptx needs to resolve and the lung "needs to come up" usually via a small bore pleural catheter (wayne catheter) or over time. You can instill doxy/talc or even blood patch it to adhere the pleural to reduce chances of recurrence.

The issue is, the lung needs to come up first.

Surgical thoracoscopy/vats will be more definitive but its not always necessary.

In pregame Jen Hale said its a much smaller puncture than CJ had in Portland and everyone is hopeful it will heal faster than that one.

CJ will likely meet up with the team Friday in Houston.

You rarely see this injury in the NBA obviously.

Well probably he was tring to kill his ex-girlfriend. He would have been in trouble with the law in any case.
