Dude single-handedly was tasked with defending the greatest player in NBA history and what will likely be one of if not the best big men in NBA all while being 6 inches shorter and at least 50 pounds lighter than both of them.

Y’all can really frick off if you’re dogging Jrue saying he doesn’t care etc etc because he swapped jerseys with somebody he played with for almost a decade. Are y’all going to blast Kenny Hustle too because AD stopped and held him up after the game to talk to him?

Jrue gave it all he had tonight on the court. That’s all that matters.

What he does after the game is of 0 concern.

JJ gave it all up on his missed shot.

Josh Hart gave it all up on his missed free throw.

Jah gave it all up when he solely cost the pelicans six points to end the third quarter.

Shut up.

You're gonna get downvoted but this is the truth.

We've played 18 games now and this is without a doubt the hardest I've seen our team play. We had our issues, and ultimately came up short, but there's not question in my mind that every guy who stepped on the court tonight wanted to win badly.

Jrue is NOT a clutch player, nor does he have the overall leadership to be the captain. His inbound pass last night is another example.

He’s a professional, he takes pride in aspects of his game. He is also not an ideal leader and I think a testimony to that is how quickly Zion was able to slot into that role on and off the court as quickly as the preseason before going down.

Jrue is a guy just as likely to start playing soccer in a critical possession as he is to hit a clutch shot. To shrug off bitter loses than use it as fuel. Like some have put it, he likes to win, I don’t see in Jrue a guy that hates to lose.

As to what he does when the game ends, sorry, but as almost any vet will attest to, what players do in the time in between the 48 minutes that occurred and the next, is as, if not far more consequential and important than what happens during them. And I think last night also reinforced a long held suspicion many had, which is he is not bought into this team, or this city. I can still respect him and his game to an extent, but unless some pretty dramatic signals go out, I no longer think he is, or should be, a part of this core going forward. And I would love the argument that the way Jrue carried himself, and Gentry for that matter, was not only a defensible posture to take, but is the sort of leadership this team and these particular players should be getting in that moment?

And if not, it rightfully raises the question as to whether they are the right ones for that job.

And that is exactly what makes what Jrue and Gentry did so disheartening.

There is a place for that, it’s not immediately after a loss in front of a city that is raw and a young team that put it on the line in a real way because this one had more emotion and meaning than any that came before it.

Instead of being a moment to put your role as a leader shaping a young roster front and center, you made the moment about celebrating your friendships and relationships with people outside that locker room. Relationships with some complicated components with key people in your locker room. To the point of actually inviting them into that space, signaling your overriding priorities not being them.

Some will give some lazy hot takes about professionalism, these are grown men etc. but if that were the case, time and again we wouldn’t see franchises like the Spurs, Warriors, Patriots, Raptors, and even a team this season like the Suns, that use culture and senior leadership as a pathway for separating themselves or over-achieving expectations.

Pretty sure Joe Burrow chatted up tua on the field (may have even exchanged jerseys) after LSU got their asses beat down in tiger stadium last year. SEC and playoffs were on the line and the Joe Burrow led offense scored 0 points in the biggest game of the year.

You think Joe Burrow has a problem with leadership?

It's college. Their kids. If Zion, Naw or even Hayes did it, none of us would even have a problem with it but Jrue knows the optics and how it feels to lose at this level. He just couldve handled it better. But hey hindsight is 20/20

I have issues with inviting the guy to the locker room for sure, but getting rustled over a on court jersey exchange is really weird to me.

Of all the things that to get upset about last night, the jersey exchange is wayyyyyyy down on the list.

Don’t you get it? We were supposed to smash our toys and storm out of the room (and
slamthe door) maybe jump up and down.

It’s odd to me that so many current players seem to idolize Kobe and make Instagram posts with stuff like #MambaMentality. I believe Jrue is one of those guys.

But as fans if we want players to actually act like they care about losing we’re being emotional.

Kobe isn’t exchanging jerseys with Shaq after the game or inviting him into the locker room. Especially if Kobe just threw the ball to the other team to end the game or missed a dunk in an absolutely critical situation.

But then again, Kobe would’ve never let Shaq say shite like he had no help and been fine with it, and continue to work out together, so I guess expecting anything different from Jrue is kind of dumb.

I mean could you imagine Russ exuberantly exchanging jerseys and high fiving Durant after Durant came back with the Warriors in their first game in OKC and beat them in their stadium? Coach inviting him into the lockerroom to further celebrate their love for one another?

And like I have to keep prefacing because of disengenuous reactionary trolls, I think it's completely fine to be cordial/friendly, but you are the face of a franchise and the captain of a young team that is full of people with raw feelings still abound due to the situation.
