We aren't getting him. I can tell you that much

The Pistons are discussing a sign and trade of restricted free agent Greg Monroe, according to Yahoo! Sports reporter Adrian Wojnarowski.
The three teams are believed to be the Blazers, Suns and Hawks. The Pistons are obviously not fans of having Josh Smith and Greg Monroe on their team, because all that money to the power forward spot would really limit what they could do elsewhere. To be clear, nothing is imminent.

Detroit has tried to help [Monroe] with some sign and trade possibilities around the league. Monroe doesn’t really have a great interest in going back and playing with the Pistons. If they’re going to move him in a sign-and-trade, they’ve got to get value for him. They’ve got to get back some significant talent to compensate for that loss.
Latest quote from Woj.
Something like Monroe for Batum would make sense if the Blazers had another starting caliber wing on their roster, but as it stands I doubt they'd want that move. Maybe something like Monroe and Singler for Batum? I don't know, I'm just spitting balling here. I don't know how much (if at all) better that move makes Portland.

It sounds like it's just a bad situation that they're probably going to be stuck with. Unlike the Suns and Bledsoe, I don't think the Pistons actually wanted Monroe back, they just don't want to give him away.

I updated the MSB FA thread on it, maybe an hour ago.

I'll be surprised if they went into this season with both Smith and Monroe.

Once Monroe started his "I want a max contract" crap, his market value dropped like a rock. Nice player with a lot of holes in his game.

Yessir
If I had to make the most educated guess I can, Monroe will come back to the Pistons, but only for a short deal, to become a UFA when the new TV deal sets in.

Three years 40mil with a player option after 2?
You probably watch him more than us, what do you think he's valued at?

It looks increasingly like both are coming back.

I think this is a bit steep, but I think that would make the Pistons (and Monroe) happy

Monroe is an enigma in some regards. He's a great player, and seems like a great person as well. He is a HUGE liability on the defensive end of the floor. I do think his offense was curtailed last year because the frontcourt was an epic disaster.
I read a really good article the other day (can't remember it), saying that Monroe, as good and promising of a player as he is, is not worth sky-high value in today's NBA. He's not a PF that the Pistons try to make him, because he can't guard stretch 4's. But even as a center, the article talked about how many GMs/coaches want legit rim-protectors at this position. That's not him either.
The Pistons are doing it the right way. I want Monroe to stay. The Pistons shouldn't break the bank to keep him though. I've said it before, Josh Smith is a much better POWER FORWARD than Monroe.
Edit - All sources are saying the Player Option is part of the hold up in contract negotiations. Monroe wants the player option after 2 years. Pistons don't want to give it to him.

Yea, it makes sense that he'd want either a max contract or an out after two seasons.
