Any chance Ainge lied to drive up price Lakers had to pay?

It never made sense to me that the Celtics would trade Tatum and a bunch of valuable assets for a 1 year rental, especially after Rich Paul’s comments. Could he have been flat out lying about still giving up the farm for AD just to make the Lakers pay more? I’m probably overthinking it, but Ainge seems like the type who would leak BS if it would hurt the Lakers in any way. He remembers when Celts-Lakers was a real rivalry.

No. Kyrie situation made it hard for them to commit. There were no shortage of information out there pointing to their reluctance of including all of their assets. As we got closer to the trade, there were more noise. We just chose to ignore it at the time.

I mean, if the owners got together in an off-the-record meeting to talk about how to reel in Rich Paul maybe, but the more likely scenario is that we were using the threat of Boston to ensure the Lakers didn’t lowball us.
Truth be told, AD did everything he could to frick us and destroy his trade value. There was really only one team bidding for him and bidding against no one but themselves.
It’s possible (although not necessarily likely) that all the stories about how Ainge was undeterred were some grand conspiracy between owners and GMs to ensure the Lakers got trade raped and thus won’t be able to compete for a championship during LeBron’s playing days.
This trade effectively did that.
It’s probably more likely that Boston saw what we were doing and looked the other way (by not refuting it) for whatever their motivations. I doubt there was coordination, but who knows?
ETA: Since AD did try to frick us, just for lulz, Pierre should tweet AD a Fathers Day congratulations and announce he’s pregnant with AD’s baby.

Wouldn’t be the only love child he left behind here.
Wrap it up, AD.
