Asik can't catch, can't pass, and definitely can't play uptempo offense.

Did you see him play his two years in Houston?

Yes I saw him in Houston. I saw he can't catch, can't pass, and the other players around him made him look better than what he was.

His first year there Houston made the playoffs as an 8th seed. Players weren't making him look better than he was. He was doing everything he was asked to do and played really well.

They wouldn't have made the playoffs without him. Not even close.

He didn't do a lot of catching and passing because that wasn't his role. The coaches didn't want him doing things he couldn't do. And when you limit what he's bad at and cater to what he's good at, you'll see he's a much better player than you think he is.

A 50 win season won't be good enough next year?

I would love for you to be right, but I just can't see it. Please elaborate on what he does great, besides rebound and defend in the half court, which are slow tempo skills.

Asik fits in best in an uptempo system. You just don't know it because last year he played in a slow offense.

One of Asik's best attributes is getting the ball up the court QUICKLY after grabbing a rebound and initiating the break. But he wasn't able to do that last year because of the style of play.

exactly. same thing bogut does for the warriors

and his salary isn't that bad (and if we don't retain him, we can't sign a replacement anyway)

asik is not as good as bogut, but bogut makes almost double what asik does (in cap terms). $8M to $14M. and he's hurt all the time

I told you.. he initiates the break better than any center in the league.

After he gets a rebound, he gets the ball to the right player running on the break very quickly. Sometimes he even turns in mid-air and makes the pass before he even lands.

Even after a made basket he sprints to the baseline and passes it in as fast as he can so that even made baskets by the other team turn into fast break points for his team.

This leads to a lot of easy buckets for his team and it rewards them for running the floor.

Plus, I have the feeling he was injured last year. He didn't look like himself. I wasn't the only one who noticed it. When the Pelicans played the Rockets this year, other Rockets fans I know commented on the same thing I was thinking. They were wondering what was wrong with him, because he didn't look himself. Didn't have the same hustle.

I get into this with my friends all the time who think they know basketball. Playing a fast tempo in the NBA isn't really about having a fast point guard. Yes, it helps to have speedy ballhandlers with vision who can push the ball. Yes, it helps to have point bigs who can push (D. Green, B. Diaw, etc). But just as important you need solid defensive rebounders who are good outlet passers. You can't run if you can't control the boards and outlets passes travel way faster than even the fastest point guard.

Evans is not very good running the floor.

You're forgetting the 1 on 4 fast breaking. Before he became the starting PG he actually pushed hard every time he got a rebound or steal.
