What current scene do you enjoy the most?

I've got to go with everything thats happening in the Alt. Country scene. So much good music coming out.

The ska movement was good for a time, but it died out. Streetlight, Real Big Fish, ect.

Indie music has gotten all the wrong influences from hip/hop (They kept the white bread beats and melodies, but took the synthesizers and drum machines). They also have left behind the good influences of rock (great licks, catchy overdrive hooks, hard driving drums, acoustic instruments, ect.).

Jazz is still lost in "modern jazz" and "free jazz" and I fear that despite Kermit and Shorty, it will never come back in a meaningful way.

Country doesn't make my speakers go boom boom and it's movement into pop music has made it even less relevant in my mind.

Rock has never recovered from Nirvana and grunge taking over the genre. The punk rock movement from the mid/late 90s died in 2005, and the plunge into Nickleback rock pretty much ruined the genre. I think Rock may finally be turning the corner (slightly). I have a cautious optimism towards rock right now that it may come out from the dark ages.

The country music movement isn't in the mainstream anymore. Its hidden out in Texas and Oklahoma for the most part and it is amazing.

I'm disappointed in you....

Why haven't you told me about Matt Woods - Johnny Ray Dupree yet? Such a badass tune

Because I've actually never heard of that person! I'll check it out when I get home.

I'm at my first-ever Josh Abbott show right now...not a fan of his music at ALL but my buddy is his fiddle player and it was free so here I am.

*sigh*

I'm hoping I'll be pleasantly surprised.

It came on on my American Aquarium pandora station and now I'm addicted.

Btw Johnny Ray Dupree is the name of a song by Matt Woods. Just noticed that they may not have been clear in my original post

meh not a fan but I would go if it was free.

Me too, pretty much.

It's not so bad...we're set up FOH and they brought us chairs and whiskey drinks. I think I'll stay.

Josh hasn't started yet but the opener's decent. Charlie Shafter. Kind of bluesy.

There's a railing set up so none of the high school kids can step on my toes. I'm gonna start yelling at them to get off my lawn. Seriously, I hope JAB doesn't get 100% of ticket sales...otherwise Floores isn't making shite. I think I'm one of the only of-age people here and I'm drinking off the bus
