re: Your 12 Favorite Tracks of 2012 (to be compiled into an MB's favorites list)

Okay...most people would agree that the biggest surprise success of the year would be Gotye's "Somebody that I used to Know".
However, I was listening to Gotye over 4 years ago. His Australian music took a while to popularize on American mainland radio, where it naturally exploded this year once people caught on to his brilliance. By that point, I was already sick of the song.
Plus, his song "Hearts a Mess" may be better anyhow.
Therefore, I'm not including him in my top 10 because the song isn't from 2012.
Here is my Top 10:
1) Van She - "Jamaica"
2) The Presets - "Ghosts"
3) Angus Stone - "The Blue Door"
4) Best Coast - "The Only Place"
5) JJ - "From Africa to Malaga"
6) JJ - "My Hopes and Dreams"
7) Van She - "Sarah"
8) Sene - "Spoiled Rotten Apples"
9) Angus Stone - "Only a Woman"
10) Angus Stone - "Monsters"

I didn't foresee seeing so many tracks that I've never heard.

Released in 2012 is preferred, but if it was (a) released in late 2011 or (b) released in 2011 but burst on the scene in 2012, that would be fine.
But I'm not trying to be the list nazi. Nobody's work will be double-checked. Just use a rule of reason and do the best you can.

I tend to be alone on most of the music that I like. If I play it enough, Mrs. Ugly grows to like it too.

I'm a big proponent of a good music video to enhance a song's magic.
Case in point, Gotye makes incredible videos. Youtube Gotye "Hearts a Mess". Sit back and enjoy.
Another band that is superb at videos is Husky Rescue, one of my all time favorite bands. Youtube Husky Rescue songs "Caravan" and "City Lights". Not only are the songs incredible, but the videos actually create an ethereal experience. Amazing.
Therefore, if you have time, I ask that you youtube these songs:

Yours weren't the only ones. In fact, I've seen six or seven bands listed that I've never even heard of before.

I listed 10 tracks, so minus the JJ music (which I highly encourage you to listen to anyhow), I'm still above my threshold.
However, my remaining 8 tracks are from 2012. At least, I'm very confident they are.

It's great when a video actually goes along with and adds something to a song...and it's also pretty rare. The best example I can think of is Tom Petty's "Don't Come Around Here No More".

I can't provide a link at this time. Security limitations prevent youtube access on the current machine I'm using.
Also, I can provide youtube links from my iPad, but those links are only accessible by other iPad users. Not sure why.
Therefore, you'll need to manually look up those bands on youtube. Think of it this way...your fingers need the exercise. Your daily Jergens marathon isn't enough.
