Would you consider Lorde and Gotye as one hit wonders?

Somebody that I used to know and Royals seem like their only big tracks respectively.

Lorde might have another couple but Gotye got really lucky with that song I think. The story behind it drove it a lot too IMO

i think she is releasing a new album soon

I know gotye is australian, so I can't speak for his fame there, but in America I think he qualifies as a one hit wonder.
Lorde, absolutely not. She had Royals, and Team got a bunch of airplay. Pure Heroine is actually a damn good album if you listen to it. Royals is probably my least favorite song on it, I skip it any time I listen. Tennis Court, 400 Lux, Buzzcut season, Team, Glory and Gore are really strong songs.
In b4 randy marsh references

The "one hit" aspect of it absolutely.
"Wonder" is another story. One hit "wonders" like come on eileen, centerfold, etc are still well known and semi-popular decades after their release, and probably will be forever. People have mostly already forgotten about lorde and gotye and 5 years from now people wont' even remember their names.
eta: after reading the other replies, I mean in america. Idc how popular gotye is in his homeland.

Very excited to see where Lorde goes with her next album. She's extremely talented. Pure Heroine was spectacular.

What was the story behind the song?

what exactly are you suggesting here...that their one popular song doesn't qualify as a "hit", or that their catalog is slam packed full of em? I fully realize they have some other good tunes, but the average everyday person is only going to know 1 song...hence being a one hit wonder.

I dont know where he is now, nor have I listened to any of his other music, but I love the background vocals at the end of "Somebody That I Used to Know."

Oh, it was a hit, but that band had more than one hit. Why use slam packed? I really am puzzled by your take here. Do you really not know their other charting songs?

Apparently you're related to him somehow so my apologies for offending you. This isn't really rocket science here, I'm not sure why you're so baffled.
