You could be right. It's my favorite that they play.

Many of these are surprising to me.

They have a whole EP of slower stuff - Jar of Flies (my favorite - listening to it right now).

Dirt has their best sleazy, "grungy" (they aren't really grunge, but get lumped in because of Seattle and the height of their popularity) sounding - I like Rooster and Down in a Hole better than Would?

Facelift has We Die Young, Man in the Box and Bleed the Freak.

AIC - has Heaven Beside you and Over Now (among others).

Half the classic lineup of the band died from heroin overdoses, so there's that. But, great, great, dark gritty music from that era.

I just looked at all the bands that I'm a real fan of, and disagree with every choice. This one was especially egregious:

196. Van Halen - “Jump”

That's my litmus test to know not to take someone seriously for anything they say ever again. Anyone who talks about how great Jump is I instantly lose any respect for anything remotely VH related they ever have to say again.

I'll give it this - it is very, very catchy. It was the first where Eddie went out of his way to tweak DLR about his keyboard playing and it is a fun song.

But, yeah not even the best song on the album (not even on the album side ). I'm as big a fan of Van Hagar, than Van Halen, FTR, but it is really hard to beat Side 1 of Van Halen, hell all of Women and Children First or Side 2 of Diver Down - particularly in the DLR Round 1 era.

1984 was good, but it was good for Panama, I'll Wait and Drop Dead Legs - "Jump" was their version of Def Leppard's "Pour Some Sugar On Me" - a really catchy, poppy, bubblegum song that overshadows the legit greatness of its respective band, IMHO.

I mostly agree. They realized where music was headed so they added some synth pop and catchy vocals to appease the masses. An utter shame that's the only #1 song they ever had.

That's fine from a standpoint of "hey, let's make music for the masses". The only problem is THAT'S NOT VAN HALEN. Van Halen is in your face vocals and face melting solos that you throw on at volume 11 and start snorting lines to. Anyone who thinks that is THE BEST song in their catalog is just so off base it's not funny.

My favorite VH is Running with the Devil

To compare Jump to PSSOM is an insult to Def

By the way which one's Def?

Phish...Carini. ...but still a good jammer.

At least is wasn't the usual online writer response--Phish has no good songs...they gave the Killers and Bon Jovi that distinction this time.

FWIW...I really like The Killers.

frick whoever downvoted my post. Sorry you like sappy synthesized glam pop.

1978 VH, VH 2, and FW are true testaments to VAN HALEN. That shitty "might as welll jumppp" shite isn't van halen. Sorry you like top 40 radio.

If you combined eruption and you really got me now into one song that would easily be their #1
