anyone singer/songwriters here ever here worked with a producer to get your song with a "full band version", or just gotten a professional recording mix/mastered/arranged by a professional producer?

this is not something i ever considered, but a guy from nashville sent me a DM about working with him on one of my songs i put on the Tok. im sure they send a million messages a day, but it got me thinking about what my original could sound like with a full band and professional arrangement.

I'm just a writer and that's all I'm interested in.
I have had this guy do some of my demos in the past, using his band and 1 of his demo singers named Dusty Drake.
It was money well spent.

I do this quite a bit with a producer friend of mine in Lafayette. I’ve recorded over a dozen tracks so far and am about to start another one soon

I’d rather not say here, but yea he seems legit. Has a pretty famous dad. Has worked with some middle range country acts and 2 or 3 on the end of a A list career.

How long are the song videos you upload to tiktok? How do you decide what parts of a song to post?

Yea that’s the hold up. He said 2500-3500 for the full band track coming to Nashville to work with him.

Haven’t quite figured this part out yet. Trying to keep snippets to 30-40 seconds so just been doing a little of the first verse and the first chorus on most of my posts. But the one the producer reached out on has been the most popular (don’t let that impress you tho lol)

Are you wanting to do the vocals, or just want a demo for your song?

I’m still navigating all this. I just started writing for myself and only about 2 months ago. I don’t have any interest in being some traveling musician, but if someone wants to sing something I’ve written I’m good with that. I really didn’t have a grasp how that worked til this weekend and am still trying to figure that all out.

It sounds like you just need song demos done.
You don't want to spend more than $ 500 per song on that, because that's all a publisher is going to reimburse.

The studio in the link that I posted, is among the top ones in Nashville for doing song demos. Many chart topping songs have been demoed at his place. He's the guy the independent publishers use.
He's been in business for over 30 years and knows exactly how to sell country songs.
He is also well connected and if he comes across something he thinks is good, he can help it along.

His pricing is upfront with no surprises, just exactly like what he has listed on his website.

The best suggestion I can really give: Before you spend money on anything, take a trip to Nashville during the week (take your acoustic guitar with you), go by Nashville Songwriters Association, hang out, try to meet and talk to some of the active writers there who are pitching their songs every day( don't compare yourself against them, you have to try to be different and stand out). I really suggest joining. They have weekly meetings Tuesday nights, and pitch to a publisher once a month, so that is probably the best day to be in town. You may even have a local chapter where you live.

It's 200 bucks per year, but it's a good way to learn how things really work and what you are up against.
As an outsider, that doesn't really know, it's easy to get taken down the wrong path and waste a lot of money. It's better to start out in the right direction with some knowledge and save yourself some headaches and money.

Abbey Road

I have not done this so have no experience to relate other than it seems like a cool thing to do.

Thanks man. All solid advice. I’m not ready to jump into anything or even invest in anything just yet. I barely even know what I’m doing, just have a song that ppl have seemed to like. It’s pretty silly but catchy. I’m still not sure what lead me to writing but just taking things as they come.

Thank you for the advice and your time.

You’ve had your songs picked up by publishers?

Yes, in the past. Nothing that ever made me any money so far and I don't have anything being actively pitched right now.
I'm about to get back in the game though, been writing and recording some new stuff.

"It’s pretty silly but catchy."
Those can be the best kind.
Just make sure it's a finished complete song.
Galen also does song evaluations for like 25 bucks per song.
He won't give any opinion of commercial potential, but he will be honest with you about structure, melody, etc..

One of my good buddies is the lead singer for Hinder and he owns a production studio. It's amazing what they can do!

It shouldn’t cost you shite. Publishing guys are always on the prowl. If they want ties to the song, they’d do it on spec for a cut of publishing.

This is correct, but they have to hear the song. That's why it's on you up front.

If you have some lyrics, that you just sent to some publisher, without any music, and you got a fair shake, I want to hear it.
Hell, just let me read them.
