Who is really responsible for the greatness that is Silverchair's Frogstomp?

'twas a really polished song but the lyrics were even more nonsensical than most 90s alt rock..

If you think that Frogstomp is great, I truly dread to find out what else you like.

I loved Frogstomp but I could not get into their later stuff. Frogstomp was a great grunge-ish album. Their other stuff just was kinda whiney and boring to me. I've tried hard to like it but it just has never grown on me.

This is funny. I've never even listened to Frogstomp but I pulled out Neon Ballroom - of which I used to only listen to maybe 2 songs back in high school - and fell in love with the album. I came here to see if anyone else felt the same way and found this thread.

I came away with the same sense, that these kids - or more specifically Johns - was a musical genius. To be so young and to be able to paint such an emotional, dark picture. Only great albums are so vibrant and set such a mood. He's either a prodigy or his parents/producers really helped him out.

I'll have to check out the other albums, but from what I've found online it appears that Johns completely denounces his first two. He says he thinks Frogstomp is "cute" but considers Neon Ballroom their first album. Pretty good write up: LINK

They seem like an underrated band because their first two albums were so heavily associated with the grunge movement that their later, more complex arrangements, are heavily underrated.
