Where do you rate Isaac Brock as a musician?

Sub par?
Some of his stuff just blows me away and some makes me wonder how he ever got a record deal. Overall, MM is one of my favorite bands. I also loved his work with ‘ugly Casanova’.
WWDBTSES and GNFPWLBN are his two best in my opinion.

I can specifically remember being a freshman in high school and hearing “This is a Long Drive...” for the first time when it came out in ‘96. It was the first album that woke me up to a whole other world of music from what me and my peers were listening to in suburban TX in the mid 90’s. And I loved every release from then on through The Moon & Antarctica. In many ways it was the background to my high school years, and the first band I really loved. After moon & Antarctica I had moved on, but those first few albums & EPs are still some of my favorites.

Modest Mouse is one of my favorite bands ever, so top tier for me. He is in the running for best lyricist ever (non Bob Dylan edition) and I love his guitar sounds and play. Both albums you mentioned are really good, but M&A and LCW are where it’s really at for me. Long Drive is also quite good.

One of my favorite all time albums. I'm not a huge fan of early Modest Mouse stuff but Brock is in the top tier. Somehow has managed to be top tier but fly under the radar sans a few of their singles that made it big.
He's up there with Oberst as far as top songwriters imo.
