Never did care for his voice, he just seems "fake" to me.

Will radio stations ever go back to playing rock or has that ship sailed?

This is nothing more than Aaron Lewis' regular acoustic music with bro-country lyrics and lap steel guitar.

Do you have to listen to one or the other?

It's not Florida Georgia line pop Nashville garbage but I'm not certain it's one or two notches above FGL and their ilk because of how insultingly dumbed down it is. He reeks of someone who is just trying to make a buck and will change his image, sound, persona and literally his entire musical genre and style if it means he can crank out some mad lib cOuNtRY songs for rednecks and white trash confederate pride lowest common denominator types.
I personally don't like Aaron Lewis's country stuff or country in general but I've never understood why we vilify the sell out type. Let the dude live a happy life and make some money. Yes you don't like it, neither do I but, but there's a huge market for it bc alot of people do, kudos to Aaron for being smart enough to adjust and cash out. We don't control everything bud, it's best for us to just stay firmly in our place and respect everyone else's at the same time.

A couple of decent country songs. Is it groundbreaking? No.

I understand how it's annoying to see people fake a country lifestyle, or fake a rap lifestyle. But how does his music sound?

Well, most radio stations are owned by Clearchannel/iHeartRadio, which is owned by CBS, which is a Viacom company (same as MTV). CBS owns Big Machine Records, the primary Nashville country label.
Cumulus is the other big radio company, which has a partnership with NashFM stations (which are owned by clear channel).
Since those two companies together own 90% of the terrestrial radio stations in the U.S., I would say that unless one (or both) decides to get behind new rock n roll and promote it, it's not coming back.
