The first solo (James) in My Friend of Misery.
I recall this solo being absolutely haunting when I'd listen to the Black Album every night through headphones in a dark room before bed, as a teen.
James' guitar work here perfectly conveys the emotions behind the song's lyrics.

This is the best song on the Black Album and possibly my favorite overall.

I WISH they had an album of outtakes of just those two!
CCT: they released a 20th Anniversary 3 CD edition in 1990.
Lots of outtakes, jams, etc. You might hunt it down if you are interested in the Layla sessions.

Is that Tom Scholz solely or is that him and Barry Goudreau?
On the record itself, I believe that is all Scholz and overdubbing. Barry joined them on tour, but I believe Scholz pulled a fast one during recording and sent them out of town to record "Let Me Take You Home Tonight" so he could have full control over the rest of the record, which does sound quite different than the final track.
For favorite guitar harmony off that record I think the "Something About You" riff might be tops for me, even though "Hitch a Ride" is probably my favorite track from the first album.
