Good blues licks
Technically sound
makes weird faces when he sings
has a few pretty catchy tunes
has a very "douche-baggy" approach to himself

Is there a problem? Good musicians are few and far between these days, so those musicians will have more threads started about them. And yes I get it, most of the people posting on this site are "too cool" to like John Mayer. That doesn't discount the fact that hes a great young musician that is still learning. From what I have heard of the new album, he has moved away from the Neon's and Body is a Wonderland crap he used to play, and is actually making music now.

not a fan of heavier things & room for squares.
but john mayer trio, continuum, & battle studies are fantastic records.
i like what i've heard from his upcoming record as well.
he's very talented. you don't get into berklee and get asked back to do clinics if you aren't. he's got one of the best guitar tones of any player out there today. although he could, he doesn't overplay. he plays for the song.

I got bashed for my Mayer thread even though I made a strong case for the guy and could care less. It's all a matter of opinion. My opinion: Outstanding artist/musician, one of the best right now, simple as that. Have seen him live twice, and not many come close to him. For haters, watch Where the Light is Live in LA.
He recored most of his new album using that customized 00-45SC Martin.
Very mature sound. Folk mixed with blues, but he unfortunately won't be able to perform it due to his throat illness. He has already started working on his next album, which from what I understand will be more like Continuum, and will showcase his blues talents. To that, fricking right!
Here is the preview of his new album Born and Raised , which to me, sounds excellent.

People that don't like John Mayer only think of what they have heard on the radio. He does/has done some nice bluesy stuff.
Try! is a GREAT live album with very little "chick" music on it, great album. Before hearing it I thought he was just a mainstream guy but this album and some of his earlier work changed my view.

I used to hate him from the music I heard on the radio. I got a hold of "Where the Light Is" and that totally changed my opinion on him. Yes, he is a bit of a douche but his musicianship is top notch and I love his blues records.
