I really don’t understand the purpose of big cabs like that for modern players. What room will anyone ever play where they need that much volume? Much more important is the ability to produce a great tone at low volumes so you can mic it and distribute it through a PA system exactly where (and how much) you want it. Heck, don’t most big bands just run everything through a kimper anyways?

A Boogie hits tones at all volumes, multi-gain-stage preamp, simul-class power amp and power scaling ... you don't have to crank it like an old Marshall or an old Vox to get their respective glory tones. Also, multiple speaker cabs generate more than dB, they move more air volume, which contributes to a truly bigger as in fuller, more 3D sound. It literally is just that.

Big bands may tour with Kempers for portability, reliability and overall convenience, but they record with stuff like this, at least they wish they were if they aren't. I'm not in the business of touring or bar band'ing anymore, I haven't gigged with an amp like this in probably 20 years, and I SansAmp DI'ed a 1x12 combo with my last bar band gig.

But my current gig, my actual day job of making people's guitars sound and play their best ... this rig is perfect for showing them where we're at. As good as the Boogie sounds, it is merciless in showing players, guitars and ultimately my bench work's deficiencies. It makes us all better at what we do. Ask any of my clients who've played through that Boogie what they think about it. I know they like my rig more than their Kempers, they tell me too often.

Edited to add, it's not really that big. Here it is next to two 1x12 combos and a 1x8 combo on top of a 2x10 bass combo.

I dig it. I was close to buying myself a used Dr. Z Maz 18 off Reverb. Just couldn't bring myself to spend the money.

I received a three pack of Elixirs for my electrics and a Beta 58A.

Nothing this year but my brother had 4 or 5 amps sitting in his garage and I thought about swiping one.

Congrats . I gifted my d-28 to myself (not this year) and it’s my favorite instrument.

I’m officially jealous. Trying to save for one but seems like something always comes up.
Going back and forth on the D 28 or the HD 28.
I have time to think about it.

I did the same thing man. Took me like 4 months to decide between the two. After a lot of reading and a lot of playing both models I decided the hd-28 was a bit too loud for me just because I sing over it a lot. I felt like the hd-28s I played felt like incredible bluegrass instruments too but I really suck at bluegrass . Also heard really good things about the hd-28v but I only got the opportunity to play one. Play as many as you can find. They all sound different.

Regardless of which way you go, those guitars along With the d-18 and the d-35, are some of the best sounding guitars ever. I really love playing mine. Good luck with the choice .

Thanks for adding “fuel to the fire”.
But seriously thanks for your input. Had read about those also.
Think I’m leaning more towards the D28. Supposedly sounds better with age.
I do like spruce over redwood the best.
Guess one day I’ll have to spend a whole day playing them all.
Damn the bad luck!

Wife surprised me with a record player that connects to our Sonos setup. Now we have records playing wirelessly through the house.

Nice upgrade from the all-in-one briefcase record player from Best Buy.

Which monitor audio towers do you have and what is your opinion? I’m in the market and they came highly recommended.
