What is the knock on Alterbridge?

I've always been befuddled by the people I live near in Alabama (which is a terrible state for music, believe me) that instantly hear the word Alterbridge and laugh. Harmonics and I were hijacking a thread for a while on tSECRant talking about their upcoming album name and I did some thinking on the subject.
Is the stench of Scott Stapp still with 3/4s of the band? It seems like before people even hear the band's music, they associate them with Creed and immediately have a sour opinion. Musically they are some of the most talented in the world and put out some really catchy stuff. I'm bitching I know, but I would like some honest opinions to clear the confusion up

Before I go on....how do you figure that? I can understand country and stuff like that, big dogs like Alterbridge among others? Nooooo way.

rock and roll
I don't care for the cheese cock rock stuff though, and I feel that's what alter bridge falls under

I think part of it is the genre. They have switched to full time hard rock, but they used to be labeled alternative.

I'm with doc- Alabama is definitely not a joke in the world of music.... Though I'm sure there are a lot of terrible fans.
As to alterbridge they are good. Something about their music hasn't clicked for me. A great band should be more than the sum of their parts and right now they have great parts and just a good result.

Alterbridge reminds me of velvet revolver. Talented but never got popular mainstream.

I'll say it. Creed > Alterbridge.

what non-country, non-southern rock is coming out of Alabama?
Posted on 7/7/13 at 11:30 am to 3xlsugrad
Seriously. Tremonti is the only mega rock star to come to Alabama in like 1000 years
Posted on 7/7/13 at 11:36 am to FourThreeForty
Scott Stapp was far from being the only thing in Creed that. I think Alterbridge proves that point nicely.

There is some great music coming out of the state for sure but I think Texas and Oklahoma would have a little bit to say about naming Alabama the best right now
