Nice set of Bookshelfs... They are horn driven though. What kind of music do you plan on listening to?
I find horns great for the harder stuff, but if you are going for more classical or adult alternative then I would either go with a dome twitter or a ribbon twitter.

I lesten to all kinds, from metal to rap to jazz. Not a whole lot of classical though. A guy on the avs forum is recommending I ditch my old Sony receiver and get a MUSIC HALL - A15.2 INTEGRATED AMP (on sale for $500) and some high end full range speakers. What do you think about this? Thanks again. This shite is confusing to me at times.

Never dealt with them before... Doesn't look like a bad Amp and I like the fact that its all analog. Only thing I would be concerned with is the craftsmanship, the thing only weighs 18lbs.. Hell, my CD player weighs 16.
What model is your Sony???

The RC10's he mentioned pre-date the Klipsch buy-out, which makes them more desirable, and finding them new at that price... It's tempting me, and I don't need new speakers.

Btw, this thread has had me rocking out my speakers all day

I occasionally look at stereo equipment to upgrade, but I just can't get myself to shell out the money it would take to get noticeably better sound reproduction.

Separates are the way to go 90% of the time... I chose integrated because the THD was .005.
Im thinking of buying a new set of bookshelves and rolling the integrated to them, then doing a Pre and Tube Amp on my existing set.

I bought most of my stereo equipment when I was in the Army and stationed in Korea. Just about everyone there was buying stereo gear. So the officer's quarters was always loud. I paid less than $1,000 for the amp, preamp and speakers. However, I did spend about $800 for a Nakamichi Dragon cassette deck that hardly gets used anymore.
My roommate bought some Bose 901's, and we used to have arguments about who's speakers sounded better. It was a good thing that we both had eclectic tastes in music. We'd buy just about every new CD that the PX would stock in classical and jazz. Our room sounded positively cultured compared to the pop, rock and country that was coming from other rooms.

The sony is a str de-975. The more I research, the more conflicted i am. So many arguments for amp/preamp, integrated amp, and then you have people making sold arguments, saying there's no proof that a new receiver is less quality than an integrated amp. I am now thinking about the KEF qi30.. it's being discontinued and is going for $399 rather than $599. Let me ask you this- if I go with the music hall integrated amp, will that allow me to someday have speaker control in separate rooms (using remote app from ipad, etc).

Do you mean hooking up more speakers? The amp you showed was only a two channel amp. You could add speakers in different rooms if you added a speaker selector, but all of the speakers would have to play the same source.
If you are just asking if you can have control over what is playing from another room, yes, with a Sonos system or something of the likes.

And also, I thought you were just looking for a really cool 2 channel set up?
Seems like you are steering away from that now.

Yeah, I guess I'm thinking about the future. I may someday add speakers in other rooms. Guess I would need a multi channel Amp for that? I'm just now learning all this in case you haven't noticed.

First you need to decide what you really want to do... do you want a great 2 channel experience to listen to music or do you really want 7.1 setup with the additional channels being in another room.
I've got 2 channel and then Sonos to run my other rooms.

I guess that's where I am confused...If I have a two channel amp with turntable, can I also use my laptop w/ itunes for that room AND run other rooms with different music off itunes? My buddy has the Remote app and it's free and seems to do the same thing as sonos.

Depends on the capabilities of the Amp and whether it is networkable or has airplay.
As for the other rooms, that will depend on if the amp has a B channel to out put to additional speakers, but almost all multi zone amps that I know of do NOT allow you to play digital content on the second zone independent of the first.

I recently got a turntable and want some speakers that crank.
Do yourself a favor and buy speakers that are accurate.
Now about the Waltz. They are made to be installed in a wall or attached to a wall. They are fairly efficient so they can play loud but they have NO bass as they only extend down to 70hz. You're going to have to have a subwoofer if you want bass extension.
What are you using for amps? They are going to sound better with a nice clean preamp and amp behind them.
Edit: Saw the Sony receiver. Ditch it. It's not going to be sufficient to drive those speakers.

Yup... The only thing I was hoping was that it had pre-outs and he could use it for a pre.
The Sony def wouldn't be a great pre-amp, but maybe it would get him by for a little while until we convinced him to spend more money
