Howdy folks, I’m remodeling a mid century modern home in Colorado. It’s on a hill and is one story with a walkout basement. The entire front on top and bottom is all glass sliders with great views.
I’ve carved out space for a music room/lounge downstairs and I originally told the architects I wanted to ditch the windows/sliders to make the room a complete sound proofed private bunker. But, when I stand in that room now and see the views I wonder if it’s a mistake. So my question to you more experienced audiophiles is… glass or no glass? Sound quality is obviously important but so is soundproofing and privacy. I’m sure I could do triple paned glass with thick curtains but I’d still be losing a sense of complete privacy and room to store more records, art, etc. And every other room has great views too.
Any advice on the glass/no glass or tips for a music room buildout would be greatly appreciated!

Hey guys, new to this thread and am looking for advice. I'm no audiophile, but I love listening to vinyl and want a quality system. Old Sony receiver crapped out on me and I'm thinking of getting the Yamaha as501. It's got great reviews and is reasonably priced at $900 at a local shop. Was flirting with the idea of getting tube amp but I like the versatility the Yamaha offers (streaming, etc).
I currently have KEF iQ30 speakers and an older Project Debut. The same store I'd buy the Yamaha from has a pair of floor model speakers on sale and they look/sound nice in the store. They're Rega RX1s, normally $1,300 going for $1,000. Not sure if they'd be any better than the KEFs but if it's an upgrade I could be swayed.
Any thoughts on these would be appreciated. Thanks!
Oh yeah, to add to the fun of posting what you're listening to...

Too bad he dropped his band. His last album is not nearly as good and I saw him with his old band and his new. Total drop off. Still a fan and seeing him next month. Hoping someday he comes to his senses and gets the dead horses back!
Saw him last week. Pretty good show except for his keyboardist. Dude's an attention whore douche. Couldn't stop barking at the sound guy. I was impressed with the show though. Wasn't sure what to expect since its obvious he's a master in the studio. Nailed it live.

I was at that show! Kid lit it up. Not much of a fan these days. Great guitarist but no stage presence.
What time did they start the other night? I'm dying to go but have to go to a wedding that night. They have two openers and show start time is 9. I'm thinking I can swing it.

I ended up going with the KEF iq30's. Assuming I ditch the Sony, what should I get?

going to see them, BOH, and Trombone SHorty at Red Rocks in August
I guess that's where I am confused...If I have a two channel amp with turntable, can I also use my laptop w/ itunes for that room AND run other rooms with different music off itunes? My buddy has the Remote app and it's free and seems to do the same thing as sonos.
Yeah, I guess I'm thinking about the future. I may someday add speakers in other rooms. Guess I would need a multi channel Amp for that? I'm just now learning all this in case you haven't noticed.
The sony is a str de-975. The more I research, the more conflicted i am. So many arguments for amp/preamp, integrated amp, and then you have people making sold arguments, saying there's no proof that a new receiver is less quality than an integrated amp. I am now thinking about the KEF qi30.. it's being discontinued and is going for $399 rather than $599. Let me ask you this- if I go with the music hall integrated amp, will that allow me to someday have speaker control in separate rooms (using remote app from ipad, etc).

again. Great band.
I lesten to all kinds, from metal to rap to jazz. Not a whole lot of classical though. A guy on the avs forum is recommending I ditch my old Sony receiver and get a MUSIC HALL - A15.2 INTEGRATED AMP (on sale for $500) and some high end full range speakers. What do you think about this? Thanks again. This shite is confusing to me at times.

Any thoughts on the Klipsch rb61 s?
Thanks, but I'm limited to bookshelf speakers. Went to a store today and listened to some Paradigm Mini's...sounded good to me, but what do I know? I've been reading the axioms are a good deal.
I don't know- $1,500? That's why I'm on Craigslist. Those Klipsch rb61 look pretty decent for $300. At least a starting point, right? Someone mention Marantz as a good entry level receiver. Do I have to have a sub? We don't really have space for it and my wife isn't a fan of having it in the corner of the room exposed.
