Unusual guitar build teaser

I've had a few shop clients ask me in recent times about cigar box guitars. They've apparently grown in popularity in recent years for what I'd guess is the novelty, the easier learning curve and/or the potential low cost to acquire one.
I've never worked on one, I've never even played one. So I figured I get experience with them by building one from scratch.
Since I don't know the first thing about cigar box guitars, I went about it my way with what I know about "real" guitars and what I like guitars to be able to do in general.
I threw together some parts from my regular luthiery and repair suppliers and from a large CBG supplier I found online.
And from the local military surplus.
Here's the teasers ... video demo coming later this week. You really got to see and hear it in action to appreciate it. I'm actually kinda proud of it.
And I can tell you now, that's a potted 8.8K alnico "real" humbucker. This ain't geared for just open-tuning sharecropper porch blues.

You’re going to have a lot of demand for those things

Bet that would be great for playing slide, with a brass dummy bullet on your pinky.
Plus, you can hide your pistol inside..in case of overzealous fans....Y'all sit back and enjoy the show! Just don't make me have to shoot ya!
A little WW2 style trench art would look great on it too.
How are you going to string and tune it? I am guessing,B G D from the bottom?

That sounds great. It has a lot of resonator type sound. It's a great idea.
You probably should trademark it if possible.
And I think it would be a great guitar to start learning on.
If I wanted one, what do you think the price would be?
and speaking of resonator, how hard would it be to install a small resonator and make an acoustic one?,or even a built in amp and speaker? you know, for the campfire and stuff.
I can really see that taking off,and there are a lot of possibilities.

E-mail me for pricing and options. And you beat me to the punch in that I'm already toying with the idea of a second version that uses a bigger ammo can, that will house an internal amp and speaker (likely a Roland Micro Cube, I love those little amps). That ACG version will have an A/B switch to either use the internal amp or use an output jack to a traditional amp.

great! what is your e-mail address ? I'll hit you right now.
Was thinking, the sheet metal of those cans, might be just thin enough to resonate pretty well, with the right bridge set up. especially like a banjo type.

Bigger ammo can....more strings?
Posted on 2/25/18 at 10:22 am to FightinTigersDammit
Bigger can could mean more strings, but more strings adds more string tension so it would probably need more sophisticated internal bracing for ideal stability.
Even with only three strings and a 23" scale length (shorter than normal) and subsequent decreased string tension, this one has some hidden internal structural hoodoo going on to make it "functional." That's kiln-dried rosewood stock, typically used to craft acoustic bridges. My challenge was to stabilize the can to stabilize the guitar's tuning, action and intonation, while preserving the natural sound of the can, that pseudo-resonator vibe.

Hey, I didn't email you yet, will send it in a bit.
I may have thought of a great slogan for your guitars though : Open a can of whoop arse jam.
Or: Go Frickin Ballistic!
