Or WYWH. That would work. Hell, I'd buy Meddle.

Does she have a good stero pair of speakers?
Does she have a good subwoofer?
Does she have a receiver or pre/pro and amplifier?
Does she have a phono stage if one is needed?

Without those things the turntable and records don't matter.

There are options that get around everything you listed. There are turntables with built-in phono stages. There are even the little all-in-ones. You just need something basic at first with a decent turntable and you can always upgrade the other components later.

Not if you want to hear what the music actually sounds like. Sure, he could get her a shitty tinny sounding AIO and it would be anything but an accurate reproduction of the music.

ETA: It wouldn't take much to get a decent little integrated amp and a pair of speakers that would blow any AIO solution away.

I would have loved that as a Grad gift, but I'd be sure that you think she's interested in vinyl if you haven't already. Just make sure it's not a gift that you think she should like rather than a gift you know she will like.

As far albums go, it's kind of hard to make any recommendations if you don't give us much info on what she's into. Everyone has their preferences or favorites. Tell us some of hers.

I like one of the responses that says to just get her a couple albums then take her to a record store and let her pick out the rest (however much you want to spend).

I set my daughter up with a system last year, got her Neutral Milk Hotel, Rush 2112, and Ella Fitzgerald - all at her request.

Great advice. I don’t want to do the full set up - looking for a little all-in-one. My thought is that she’s still moving around - and doesn’t need a huge system to worry about, and if it was about high-quality, I’d go cds.

The part about the vinyl that was attractive was that it isn’t high quality. It has the cover, and sleeve to look at while you listen - and you listen to the whole thing rather than just downloading a song or two. It’s like making your own martini - it’s the process rather than the perfection.
