I don't disagree with it being on par with the Beatles' best work. It's better than some of their stuff but the topic was top 5 favorite albums as in your favorite. Not everybody worships all things Beatles as you do. Surprising or shocking, maybe but troubling, no.

I think I'd rather stick ice picks in my ears than hear My Sweet Lord or What is life for the 1 billionth time.

Also, personally a big fan of The Yes Album from 1971.

Damn. How did I leave that off. Can it be 6 albums?

I wanted to include Lamb Lies Down on Broadway too so sure...let's make it 6.

If it's 6, add Weasels Ripped My Flesh by the Mothers to my list.

Actually, this list should be more like top 25 favorite albums of the 70s.

OK, one to add since pretty much NOBODY listened to it when it came out and the band folded. And the album eventually became legendary.

This one is partly Kafka's fault.

Starts with:
Dallas

And ends with:
One Road More

Absolutely. I know everybody has their favorite era of music (usually the one corresponding to their high school years) but the 70's were special.

No one listened to it b/c it was only released in a tiny run on 8 track (to fulfill a contractual obligation):

the very rare promo single:
