Tool have angered their fans by announcing plans to sell an ultra-deluxe vinyl version of their 2019 album ‘Fear Inoculum’ for $810 (£595).
The album will only be available to fans who bought the Toolarmy VIP tickets to the forthcoming dates on their tour. For $810, the collection includes five discs of 180-gram vinyl, with music on one side and etched art on the other. The sets have also been autographed.

Honestly I find the sound quality is not as good on vinyl.

This is why their only vinyl I have is Opiate.

frick that.
An interesting idea though. If they sell a limited pressing for $100 it'd probably sell out immediately. If you are in the money making business and understand how Tool fans are, you'd mark that price up to as high as you can if you know it will sell more than a limited pressing of something like 1,000.
Let's be realistic... how many "deluxe vinyls" can they sell for $800?
1,000 = $800,000
2,000 = $1,600,000
But if you don't want to piss off your fans, you'd probably not go with this strategy...unless its Tool fans.

That’s just the initial run from what I’ve read… April/May will be the normal release.

Yeah, it looked like these were advanced copies that they signed on the road and decided to sell in the merch stand. Supply:Demand not unheard of for vinyl to go for stupid money. For those who thought $810 was too much, looks like they are selling well on Ebay for $2k.

The Lateralus vinyl is nearly unlistenable. For the amazing mixing and mastering they have on their albums, the vinyl pressings fall short. At some point, I think I had seen them remastering with vinyl in mind. I know they had Bob Ludwig remaster everything ahead of the release of digital a few years back. The mindset being that digital has different strengths and shortcomings due to the compression and you could tweak the sound to create the best possible digital experience.

FI Deluxe Vinyl - Amazon
Not sure if anyone saw this. Its still crazy at $170 for the vinyl. But more manageable.
