Also, if we're bitching about exploitation of the tragedy. . .

. . .Enrique Iglesias debuting his new single on the 9-11 telethon was about as low as you get.

You say this like they didn't make Pearl Harbor movies in its wake. This has always been done.

Titanic's sinking has never been exploited for financial gain.

I'm curious what you think about this song... U2 & Green Day - The Saints Are Coming

They managed to capitalize on an American tragedy and be an anti-war song at the same time.

Is this low hanging fruit? Was it exploitation that they debuted it in the Superdome for the Saints return?

Kristofferson took a deep inhale and leaned against the wall, still vibrating with adrenaline. He looked over at Willie as if to say, “Don’t say a word.” Then his eyes found me. “You know what Waylon Jennings said about guys like him?” he whispered.

I shook my head.

“They’re doin’ to country music what pantyhose did to finger-frickin’.”

Awesome!

Sounds like Kris was being kind of a dick, imo. I am no Toby Keith fan. I don't like the song. However, Keith is a product of modern country. . .not a problem source.

Fwiw, Waylon's quote was about Garth Brooks.

That is way more appropriate.

After Garth, country became generic oldies rock with a southern drawl. Shania Twain finished the evolution by adding generic R&B with a drawl.

The last new country artist I enjoyed, was Dwight Yoakam. The genre has been shite since the early 90's

Not a war protest song, FWIW.

Speaking of Kris, here in IMHO is how you can do a Country tribute, hold the cheese. This is a tune (love or hate the artists) that memorialized a little known and brutal battle in Vietnam. I've met the guy it was inspired by and he's about the coolest f#%ker on the planet.
