Revisiting this beaut of an album. Opens with Dramamine, breakthrough and custom concern.... strong fricking album.

Holy crap... That's the first time I have ever checked them out. Only listened to the 1st song for now and that is pure awesome. Gonna dive into their stuff a bit. Love the way they sound.

Love this album. I often look over it because LCW and M&A are so damn good, but This is a Long Drive is soooooo good.

I'm jealous of you. Modest Mouse was one of the first bands that opened my eyes to a whole different world of music that I paid no attention to or didn't know exists. I have very fond memories of listening to this band.

If you like This is a Long Drive, you will most likely enjoy Lonesome Crowded West, and Moon and Antarctica. Try Good News after that.

Move to Lonesome Crowded West next, then The Moon & Antarctica. Take them on as albums, not individual random songs. Become obsessed.

I don’t know if there is any three album stretch I would take over Long Drive, LCW and M&A.

I had never heard of them but this does sound interesting. I'll have to check them out some.

I only bought "Strangers..." when it came out a few years ago. Been meaning to check out their older stuff.

This is my own opinion, but there’s not a lot there after M&A.

I almost agree. Their style shifted quite a bit after that. I still consider Good News to be very good and We Were Dead to be a notch below. I did not like their last album.

Agreed, anything past that was just disappointment.

Strangers was hit and miss, but I love "The Ground Walks..." One song doesn't make an album, but it's a great tune.

I was trading tidbits with a friend yesterday who's a Smiths fan. Didn't know Johnny Marr was with MM for a while. I came across this article while looking them up. Seems to jive with your thoughts.

That article pretty much sums up how I feel too, though, like I said, I liked Good News. I just felt We Were Dead and Strangers kinda felt like Good News II and III.

For any that don't know, Isaac did a short side project in 2002, Ugly Cassanova, that sort of bridges the gap between M&A and Good News as far as styles go. It's a decent listen. LINK

I also enjoyed the 1 song collaboration with 764-Hero for the song Whenever You See Fit. It's a pretty repetitive 14 minute long song but I used to listen to the hell out of it while studying in college. LINK

Kind of random bump, but fans of This is a Long Drive and early MM in general should check out the album Rot Forever by Sioux Falls. I've been listening to it all summer and it is constantly giving off early MM vibes. Not saying it is quite that good, but I enjoy the hell out of it. Album came out in 2016, but I just discovered it. And like early MM, the album is long and sprawling, and great for a road trip.
