Jim? You see, back in the day, they would make a short promotional film to help sell records. MTV being a visual medium, just playing the song with a fixed image of the single or album wasn't enough.

Sometimes, the video would apply to the lyrical content and sometimes it would be its own independent artistic endeavor. It became its own form of art.
