I forgot to pay my respects to Gordon Lightfoot. Rest in peace, mate.

Happy Father's Day to all of the Music Board Dads.
My Dad passed away in 2003. He was a well known lawyer in NYC. I had every intention of going back to NY after law school until I had the opportunity to clerk in a firm in downtown DC in which there was a son of the founding partner. I saw that he was a very good lawyer in his own right, but was never going to be the lawyer his Dad was. I thought he led a frustrated life and I decided that I would not put myself in that position; got licensed in DC, Virginia, and Maryland; and made my own mark. One of my sisters took over our Dad's practice.
I always kinda got a chill hearing this song with the lyric:
But his blood runs through my instrument
And his song is in my soul
My life has been a poor attempt
To imitate the man
I'm just a living legacy
To the leader of the band
I am certain that in my 45 years of the practice of law I was never the trial lawyer my father was, but I feel as though "I'm just a living legacy to the leader of the band." I still miss you, Dad!

I had a long lunch in DC with an old flame on Friday after a court appearance in Fairfax. We ended up spending the afternoon and a good deal of the evening together. It was a lot of fun.
As I was driving home "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" came on. It reminded me of a wedding I called off in 1987 (not with my lunch date) - I laughed because I knew I dodged a bullet. I always loved this line:
"It's 4 o'clock in the morning, dammit
Listen to me good.
I'm sleeping with myself tonight
Saved in time,
Thank God my music's still alive!"
I wonder how that woman is doing now - perhaps she feels much the same as I do about dodging a bullet?!?!
It's why I love music - it always brings back memories of the times in my life. Enjoy this:
Elton John "Someone Saved My Life Tonight"

I'll see you and raise you an ELO. This is kind of a banger for its time.
"Evil Woman."
Eagles "Best of My Love."
