It's September, I know, but just saw this come through my email today. I know there are some Sufjan fans here, so I thought I'd share the news. This is a 5LP set and it's only $55 with discount code SUFMAS2018. I have the Silver and Gold Xmas album on vinyl and it's one of the best packaged pieces of vinyl that I've ever received. So I'm really looking forward to owning this one.

Will it only be available as a box set, or will they release them individually too? I’m not a huge fan of a lot of those tunes, but there’s one Xmas album that has the song “sister winter” on it, and that song is incredible. Wouldn’t mind purchasing just that one.

I’ve gave him a try several times but never could get into it. What’s a good starting point if I want to give it another go, not necessarily from this album but his whole book of work.

That’s kind of hard to say because his albums can be fairly different. Carrie and Lowell is a more quiet, singer songwriter album about the death of his mother. Seven Swans is also a more quiet record with a lot of Christian themes. Illinois and Michigan are baroque pop concept albums jammed full of instrumentation. Age of Adz is more electronic. I think all five are great, but Carrie and Lowell is my favorite. It’s a top five record this decade for me.

I’ve linked one of my favorites from each of his albums, I’d recommend listening to those and then digging deeper into the album your favorite comes from.

Should Have Known Better

The Transfiguration

Chicago

I Walked

Vito’s Ordination Song

Pretty much what Seaward said. I'd start with Illinois, as it is his most popular, but that's my preference. It's the quintessential Sufjan record IMO. If you like that, you'll like Michigan.

Age of Adz is awesome, as was his other EP that came out just before, All Delighted People.

I'm actually not a huge fan of Carrie and Lowell. I prefer his other work.

As far as the X-mas albums go, I prefer the 2nd one, Silver and Gold, but both are great IMO. And to the person who asked if you could just buy the individual EP's, I don't think that's possible, unless someone on ebay splits them up and sells them that way, which is very unlikely.
