I was really into his stuff around 2003-06. He got a lot of criticism for his last album, but I actually really liked it.

His album Come on Feel the Illinoise changed the way I thought about music. I think the guy is brilliant. I understand he's not for everyone but he holds a special place in my heart. If you can't listen to the Michigan and Illinois albums and not "feel" something then I question whether you have a heart or soul.

I am a fan. There was a time when I thought he was overrated, but I don't anymore. Illinois, Michigan, and The Age of Adz are all really good albums.

The Illinois album is unquestionably amazing. I tried listening to Age of Adz, but couldn't get into it.

Alot of people will unfairly compare Illinois and Seven Swans to Age of Adz but Sufjan is a constantly evolving and extremely talented musician so it's really hard to peg him for a particualr sound. I think he changed alot in his personal life between Illinois and AoA too.
Music is going towards a more electric sound and critics will roast an artist these days if their record sounds anything like their last.
Personally, i think Sufjan has produced some of the best work out there over the last 10 years.

I'm not disparaging the album at all, I could tell the transition he made. Who knows, I may come around to it in a few months.

He can be annoying at times, but overall, I'm a fan.
There is no denying his talent.
I saw him at the Paramount Theater here in Austin for the Illinois tour. There were about 20 people in the band and they were all wearing huge wings.
A bit self-absorbed, but musically, it was one of the best performances I've ever seen.

One of my favorite artists. His live shows are really outstanding, although his stage banter is kind of annoying.
I like all of his stuff. Age of Adz was a really cool idea and it worked well.

I saw him at the Fox in Atlanta on his Illinois tour and it was a really good show. My only complaint is that there were a handful of songs that they used these bells in and they were just so damn loud, it almost took over everything else. Other than that, it was really good.
