They are different. Sturgills work has more depth I guess you could say. But Stapletons work with the Steeldrivers was fricking awesome. Better than traveler as another poster already mentioned.

I think I prefer Stapleton.

I don't dislike Sturgill, I just don't revere him like some do. Is he talented? Of course. Interesting? Sure. Do I enjoy listening to him regularly? Not really.

I like smart music with depth. That said, if it's not enjoyable to hear (in my opinion), it won't have any staying power for me.

Simpson took many listens for me to really love it.

And he has the highest replay value of any current artist I listen to.

Same with me. I didnt really get the love for Sturgill the first few listens but he has definitely grown on me and now I love his stuff.

That being said, I prefer Steeldriver Stapleton over Sturgill. But that's mainly bc I enjoy the Steeldriver type music more.

It's kind of an apples to oranges comparison. I know they might share the "country" genre, but they are both pretty different but still extremely talented

Part of it for me is likely that I was never really a classic country fan. I don't hate it, but I generally like mid 90s country and Texas music from a pure "enjoyment" standpoint. After that, it's mostly Americana/folk for me.

Hence, I can listen to Dylan and Isbell and Townes all day, but SS just doesn't do a lot for me.

Nothing wrong with that. It does still come down to personal preference.

I'd go Simpson>Isbell>Stapleton but I have Simpson and Isbell over Stapleton by quite a bit.
