Sturgill or Stapleton?

IMO Sturgill blows him away. Just think his songs are written at a higher quality.
His first album is incredible in my mind. It's a traditional country sound that's expertly written. His next two are filled with great songs as well.
I know Stapleton has only one solo album but going back to his Stelldrivers days he just doesn't have as many great songs.
Don't get me wrong. I love Stapleton and think they're both great for country music. I just think Sturgill is better.

Do people claim Stapleton>Sturgill?

Both are transcendant artists in their particular genre. Adele is another huge legend in the making. Sometimes real talent still rises to the top and surfaces today. Maybe that is a good trend in the making. Return to creative, soulful, authentic music. I sure hope so. Music has been in a long dry spell over the past ten years, in my opinion.

Well I know my dad sure as hell thinks so. His reasoning is he thinks Stapleton is a better performer. Which is ridiculous cause country isn't supposed to be about performance.

I don't get the Sturgis love. Seems pretty stale to me.

Speaks volumes about you but says nothing about the music. Classic projection. It seems stale to you because you and your life have gotten stale. Shake things up a bit and open your mind to new ways of thinking. This guy is obviously plugged in and his music reflects that. There aren't many new artists that just blow me away anymore but his music certainly falls into the category of transcendent, revolutionary sound. His music qualifies as that. Of course he is still a young Gen Xer so his music has to be great. He has big footsteps to follow and represent and he is creating a new sound as a result. Great stuff.

I didn't figure that would make sense to you youngsters. Way over your head, unfortunately. Read it a few times. It will start to make sense to you with repetition.

Haven't seen Stapleton, but sturgill tore the house down at Jazz Fest in '15. Easily one of my favorites I've seen at the fest.

Jesus dude you need to chill. Not everyone is gonna like your favorite artist. I also don't understand the obsession with him on this particular board. I think isbell blows them all away, and I like them all.

Sturgill fricking owns.
Stapleton is good, more radio friendly; Stu is much, much, much more interesting. I also prefer Sturgill's voice.

Give me a case of good beer, some red meat on the grill, & just play them both on rotation.
There's no national or world championship they're vying for. Just let the boys play & enjoy the hell out of it.
