Went to a show yesterday and it got me thinking. Depending on how good security is about checking your tickets before entering each section, couldn't you just keep checking stubhub for either much better seats in your section or a section nearby where security doesn't check your tickets? Stubhub posts the row and seats before even purchasing, and they cut off sales at their stated time of the event, so you could technically check to see what seats are still for sale at that time and just go sit in them, assuming that nobody will purchase them in the last minute or so.

I could have probably gone all the way down to the floor in a big arena last night if I had thought of this. Has anybody tried something similar, besides just moving into unoccupied seats in the middle of a show?

I find it easier to just look for empty seats once I'm in there. If they're still empty a few songs into a show, I'll try to move to them.

Sounds like a pretty smart plan if the goal is to avoid the embarrassment of being caught taking someone else's seats (not that most of us haven't done that and survived intact).

Good thinking OP. Probably more effort than I'm going to put in, but shrewd nonetheless.

I’ve put tickets on stub hub at a high price and if no takers, I head to the show. Sometimes the seller uses the tix when it doesn’t get purchased.
