Huge Police fan here. Ghost in the Machine was the first album I ever bought, and I still think the B side is some of their best work.
Sting was arrogant, no doubt, but almost in a cynical sort of way. And Copeland was no angel to get along with either. I hated when they broke up but at least they quit on top.
His biography is worth a read. He talks about Stewart Copeland’s family a bit in it too, which is fascinating.
