You're completely missing the point.

Artists should strive to make an album worth listening to. They should put in a lot of hard work and then release this album. Fans of theirs should buy the album.

They didn't release singles of their songs. They worked hard on all of their songs and on the album. It disrespects the other 10 tracks to buy just one.

Would you buy one chapter in a book?

Agree but that doesnt make it a "either you like it all or you like none of it" situation

This i dont get. Im the consumer, i get what i like out of the album. I highly doubt you have nothing but albums on your ipod/computers

You must despise the shuffle button

Albums are more like a series or short stories with an overarcing theme, but they can stand alone

Doubt all that you want.

Don't despise, but I don't use it often. You know the shuffle can be used to shuffle albums too, right?

I listen to albums or live concerts 95% of the time. If I catch a new song I like a lot, or just hit a groove to a particular song I might play it a couple times. When I'm just listening to music, though it is albums or concerts.

If I'm at a party I don't care what they do. It would be pretty weird to play full albums of artists at a party.

Yes, but if you want to make the book analogy then the shuffle button would be like jumping from chaper 1 to 13 and then to 5. And youve made the point that albums were made for one particular order like we shouldnt disturb that.

According to you, that is offensive to the artist/other songs on the album.

I said purchasing singles is disrespectful. They put in work for the whole album.

If I own 300 albums by multiple artists I haven't disrespected any of them if I put that whole list on shuffle for a party.

You are very nitpicky.

So im supposed to buy the whole album to appease the artist even if i dont like it or listen to it?

How is not buying it any different than not listening to it unless its just about the money?

Do whatever you want, man. I haven't told you to do a damn thing.

I told you my opinion, you said it is stupid. I defended my opinion and explained where I'm coming from.

I don't like artists releasing singles, and I don't like consumers buying them. It is really that simple. Enjoy what you want, and I'll do the same.

don't worry about it that much.

I buy albums for bands that I like. If all that I like is one song that an artist puts out, then I don't buy anything. If an artist wants me to purchase their music they can put out a solid album.

I won't buy an album from a band that I wouldn't see live in concert. I should be able to listen to an hour straight of someones music without feeling a strong urge to skip to the next track every other song.

He is saying that an artists album should be listened to entirely, which I agree with. People who just focus entirely on a singles are missing the work as a whole. A lot of people just focus on the hits of their favorite artists and do not take the time to dive in to their whole body of work

There is no right or wrong answer here, but releasing singles is somewhat important for artists because these are the songs that get released on the radio and are used to promote an album, at least that is how it used to be.

I don't think there is a problem.

No one forced any of these guys to be the "starving artists". They are more than welcome to get out in the real world and join the work force like everyone else. They were told all their lives that there isn't any money in being a musician, they have no right to get upset when that piece of advice turns out to be correct.

So either suck it up, accept that you're going to be broke and create music for the love of it or go get a real job and make some money.

There is nothing easy about being a musician not should there be

I'm not seeing this Discovery. Any help here? Maybe it's because my interwebs suck overseas, maybe it'll come when the update finally makes it here.
