Too much credit?

Song Writing - Rod Temperton.....Rock With You, Off The Wall, Thriller, The Lady in my Life.

Producer -Quincy Jones

Musicians - Louis Johnson, Steve Lukather, Jeff Pocaro, JR Robinson, Michael Boddiker, David Foster, David Paich and on and on.

Heck, those guys could make most people sound amazing. Serious question, wasn't he really just another member of a boy band. I mean, I love his music but I'm not sure he qualifies as a genius because he could dance and had a decent voice.

I've never bought anything he did. I do like most of The Jackson 5 stuff though.

MJ deserves all the credit he gets. Check out the Billie Jean solo demo tape for proof.

He was the King of Pop. Pop stars aren't famous for writing and producing. They are famous for entertaining. And at that he was Bad. So Beat It.

So he was a genius as some in the other thread have said?

MJ was the ideal pop showman. Sing, dance, entertain.

Great R&B voice that could also do rock & pop & Broadway. But he didn't introduce a new music genre to the masses the way Armstrong brought Jazz to the world or Elvis was the face of RnR, or Cobain with alt rock, etc.

MJ's ultimate legacy might be bringing the music video era to the world. He didn't start it, but he made it mandatory for artists maximizing their single's success.

He surrounded himself with great producers and musicians, so it's hard to judge how much was his ideas............. The whole sleeping with kids thing just ruined any appreciation for his music from me. I think he was severely screwed in the head.

He was purely the product of the pop/entertainment (Quincy Jones) machine.

He was a perfect example of someone who could create and write music without being able to play an instrument. He could literally hum and beatbox every part of a song to the session players and put music from his mind to the instruments

Yet this didn't happen to the best of my knowledge. Now, I have read where the studio guys were provided with demo tapes, at least the drummer, bassist and guitarist were, but someone had to chart all those horn and string arrangements.

I believe that Jackson was a very talented man, but not a musical genius. So he wrote Billy Jean and made a demo, Rod Temperton still wrote the vast majority of his biggest hits while the best musicians in the world played the tracks and the greatest R&B producer in the world charted it out.

I love his music, always have, always will.
