Songs that should have been done by someone else

there are two kinds of these, the way I see it.

The first kind is the song that was actually written with the intention of somebody else doing it, but the writer had second thoughts and kept it for himself or his band:

Kiss - "Hard Luck Woman" - Paul Stanley wrote this for Rod Stewart but then decided to keep it for Kiss and had Peter Criss sing it. I like the Kiss version, but I'd rather hear Rod.

Donovan - "Hurdy Gurdy Man" - written for Jimi, but Donovan kept it. I don't think there's a person alive, including Donovan, who thinks this was the best decision.





Then there's the song that you just arbitrarily wish someone else would have done it:

Led Zeppelin - "Trampled Under Foot" - Stevie Wonder. I love this song, but I wouldn't love Zeppelin any less if this song was Stevie's instead.

Led Zeppelin - "The Rover" - Black Sabbath. This just sounds like a Sabbath song to me.

The Velvet Underground - "I Found a Reason" - Mazzy Star. For all I know, this recording may have been done, but I feel like this is a Mazzy Star song even though I think Mazzy Star kinda sucks.

Elton John - "Rocket Man" - David Bowie. Not really really. I'm just curious since Reg is obviously trying to be Bowie here.

Wings - "Let Me Roll It" - Plastic Ono Band. I'll hang up and listen.
