I recently discovered this album from 2003. I don't know how I haven't come across it until now. It's got a very good alt-country feel to it. The only song that I had previously heard was the first, "Farewell Transmission."

Full Album - YT

Anyone else familiar with them? I never see them mentioned here.

This is an album I’ve meant to check out, but kept forgetting to actually do it. I will listen to it today though. Glad you posted about it.

Yeah, it does. I’ll report back after I give it a few listens.

Just started, but I have to say Farewell Transmission was excellent. I definitely think I will like this album a lot. It rocked a little more than I expected. I thought it would be more acoustic and quiet for some reason.

This album reminds me of Neil Young.

That's a good comparison. Farewell Transmission has a bit of a "Down by the River" vibe.

Molina later started a band called Magnolia Electric Co. I enjoyed their album What Comes After the Blues. Got to see them around the time that album came out at Spanish Moon.

Good music. I used to listen to that a decent bit. Kind of forgot about it. Fits in well with some youtube music rabbit holes I have been in lately, will have to put it back in the rotation

Jason Molina GOAT. One of my all time favorites. RIP.

I’d recommend this book, as well as all of his albums

One of my favorite tracks - The Body Burned Away

Oh yeah. Huge fan here. Def check out the band Magnolia Electric Co. too. I like earlier Songs: Ohia but I can see that may not be for everyone

You find some good live material on Archive.org and YouTube

Sadly he stopped recording and touring in 2009 and passed away in 2013 at age 39

There are a few Molina tribute albums, covers, and songs about Jason out there. Glen Hansard Did a cool tribute EP and Strand of Oaks has this sweet tune about Jason

Interestingly, they just announced that a post-humour Molina album is coming out soon. First song off it:

"Farewell Tranmission" is such a powerful song. There's an awesome cover that Kevin Morby and Waxahatchee did out there (there's also a whole album of Molina covers that was done as a fundraiser called Farewell Transmission)

Randomly heard a Songs:Ohia song on a Tidal playlist last year and dug in a bit deeper on their catalog, having never heard of them before. So fricking good. The album that has really grabbed me is "The Lioness", but everything Molina has touched that I've heard, including the MEC work, has been incredible.

This album has been nearly on repeat (well it and the new Jeff Rosenstock) for me since I first listened on Tuesday. It’s damn good.

In a way, it reminds me of Daydream Nation by Sonic Youth. Not in sound, but that it is a great record full of really good songs, but the opener is so phenomenal it still towers over the other songs a bit. Farewell Transmission is one of the best songs I’ve heard in awhile.
