Songs "harmed" by being a movie or TV theme

I don't mean from a commercial success, but from an artistic sense where you don't take the song as seriously maybe.
Pretty in Pink by The Psychedelic Furs comes to mine. Great song that is tainted by the movie, at least for me.
The movie helped them tremendously obviously, but I never liked the song as much back in the day because of its attachment to a sappy teen movie.

sappy teen movie.
Or a classic, depending on perspective.

True. Now. At the time it was just one of many in that genre.
And I'd call it a generational classic. It's not exactly Gone with the Wind or The Godfather.

The Who songs from various CSI programs. I hear the scream and think the opening credits from CSI: Miami.

Great way of describing in a better way of what I was trying to get at.
Tainted in the sense that the song is connected with something else, even if it is positive.
Like a Rock would be an example, especially for those who weren't around when it came out first. It's a truck song for many people.

I get Like a Rock.
I love Talledega Nights, and Faithfully by Journey and We Belong by Pat Benetar totally do that for me. If Faithfully comes on the radio, I tell my wife I'm harder than a diamond in an ice storm or that I want to be the nice kind of crack dealer.
Commercial wise, that Party Rock song by LMFAO makes me think of the dancing hamsters Kia commercial.

The cover version of "In The Street" by Cheap Trick on That 70s Show was a pretty steep dive for that song's appeal IMO. Not sure who's idea it was to sing the "TALK!" part in "talk to you" with that inexplicable emphasis but it sounds retarded.
Rare misstep for Cheap Trick.

I think that’s a great example. One comes to mind for me pretty quickly. Not that it’s a stellar song necessarily but Stand by REM would always make me think of the Chris Elliott TV show Get A Life back in the early 90’s.
Pretty funny show though.

Another one, but I don’t think it’s been harmed by the show as it (the song) was never a huge hit, Mike Rowe’s Dirty Jobs uses a great song for it’s theme...

"I Melt With You" was pretty overplayed in commercials.

I feel like commercials gave that song a lot of attention that it wouldn't have gotten otherwise.
