In 1990, Sinead was about as big a star for that year on the planet. That never happens without NC2U. I am not knocking people who cover songs. That will always go on. I AM IN A STATE OF SHOCK that you can't or won't comprehend the impact that song had on her career. This thread itself would not exist without her covering that song. Except for Sinead and Sheila, the other examples you have were already well established stars.

No, Prince isn't solely credited for her success. Yes, she owes her overnight notoriety to that song

Prince did not write that song for her, he wrote it for one of his protege groups called The Family.

Stevie Nicks already had Stand Back written. She called Prince one night and by chance he was in LA so she asked him to come over and see if he liked it. He added the synth to the song and was gone in about 30 minutes. This wasn't his song for her to cover.

A far better discussion wouldve been how prince allegedly whipped sineads arse in his front yard. And how she was supposedly only able to outrun him and get away because he was,of course, wearing boots
