Brian’s Vox Teardrop guitar is arguably the coolest guitar in rock history.
You're not kidding. Very cool.

Yes, I am intrigued by Jones. Partly this is due to knowing so little about him, especially when I was younger. Books about the Stones did not go into much detail on him. He was just a mysterious figure on album covers.
Even in this age of the internet and having read the Trynka bio, he remains an enigma.
They have sort of erased Brian Jones from the history of the band...Mick Taylor and Stu get talked about more.....but in the early days The Rolling Stones were very much Jones' band. He founded the band, was the leader, had the vision, and called all the shots. He was also the big heartthrob to there earliest female fans and got the press. He was a supremely talented musician who could play anything and alll those instruments you hear from the big hits in the 60's are Jones. He wasn't much of songwriter and as they realized they needed to write their own music, the power shifted over to Mick and Keith.
By all accounts Jones was a nasty piece of work and a real a-hole and abusive. He had something like six kids out of wedlock and didn't give a shite. Even Charlie said he was a real a-hole. Drugs and alcohol did a number on him and his contribution to the band fell to nothing and Mick and Keith were ready to fire him by th time they did Jumping Jack Flash. The last thing Jones did with the Stones was the slide work on "No Expectations" from Beggars Banquet which is pure genius. According to Mick they hadn't seen him in awhile and he showed up out of the blue at the studio and dropped that slide work in one take and that's what you hear.
Jones' drug busts in England meant he couldn't get a visa for the 1969 Tour of The America's and the Stones needed the income badly as they were effectively broke thanks to their deal withe the shady Allen Klein. So firing him was an easy choice. Also other personal bad blood between Jones and Keitth over Anita Pallenberg who left Jones after being beaten up by him and she hooked up with Keith.
There was a good book written about Jones and an Amazon documentary (trying to recall titles) released somewhat recently about what happened to him and its quite likely he was actually murdered by a shady disgruntled employee to whom he owed money to and didn't pay.

Ronnie Wood is a much better fit than Mick Taylor, even though Taylor was technically brilliant.

Great picture
My nephew lives within walking distance of the site.
Btw, in my opinion, that album - High Tide and Green Grass, could be the best greatest hits compilation of the 60s.
