re: Robert Plant vs. Glenn Hughes vs. David Coverdale

Although I give Zep the clear nod as my favorite band I don't give Plant the best voice or best frontman,although he was a hell of a lyricist.

I'd have to give both to Freddy,with Paul Rodgers a close second (voice),and Jagger (front).

Just watched a live Whitesnake dvd from London from a few years back and Coverdale was f#%kin killing it.

part of what makes queens sounds are the harmonies. the three of mercury, may, and taylor are the queen sound. its like boston without the harmonies. when rogers plays with queen, he just sings like he is in bad company, which offers no place for anyone to add harmonies.

it essentially cuts queen off from their signature sound in lieu of rogers getting to yell around the stage. roger taylor is as good of a second singer in a band, and the change effectively negated him.

I meant Mercury as a whole - not just vocalist but as front man. I prefer Jagger myself but Mercury was great for his band. Their vocals were excellent and you bring up a great point about Taylor and May.
