Some the best opening likes even on a debut album.
The alternative version of 'Get Outside' on the re-issuse of 'Sneakin Sally Through The Alley' is worth the price of admission by itself.
They played the first four tracks off that album right before Dr. John took the stage at the Blues Fest a couple years back. Not a single song Huey Lewis ever did would have fit that place and time.
Hell, Palmer even did Toots & the Maytals right with 'Pressure Drop'.
I do have to admit I like 'Walking On A Thin Line' off Sports, but it's got nothing on anything Robert Palmer ever did.

Other than the 80's, what in God's name would motivate you to compare those two guys?
Huey Lewis was/is fun, but nothing serious.
Palmer was a great singer with blues/funk/soul sensibilities, and he always had a great band backing him up. Saw him live and he was killer.

I always wanted to know how this happened. It most of sucked for Palmer when he realized he'd never have a band like that again.

Huey Lewis & the News for me by a long shot.
At their core they were a doo-wop group, so I would have dug their harmonies
I saw them at MIM a few years back and Huey was a BIG a-hole to his sound man berating him repeatedly at the side of the stage. I've seen a lot of shows and never seen anyone acting like such a d-bag to one of his own.
