Last time I saw him perform was with Mule.

He was a great player. I just recently watched a show of his from 2013 (dvd) and he was still able to play at age 69.
I'll never forget watching him perform at the First Atlanta Pop festival.
LINK
He started his set with Rollin' and Tumblin' and after playing just the first few notes he blew out the sound system.
He played the rest of his set without a sound system.
I couldn't hear anything but it was fun just to watch him play on stage.
RIP

I thought they had. In fact, weren't they scheduled to do some gigs together this year?
ETA: Johnny and Edgar actually toured together last year. They played 20 venues just last summer. Edgar was happy his brother was part of it.
That's good to know, thanks.

Damn. RIP. I saw him at the Texas Clib in BR around 08. I'm gonna go play Highway 51 as a tribute.

The Winter brothers and Janis Joplin were all born in the Golden Triangle area at about the same time weren't they?

The Winter Brothers, George Jones, Janis Joplin, Gatemouth Brown, C.J. Chenier, Marcia Ball, Moon Mullican, the Big Bopper, Tracy Byrd, Clay Walker, and Mark Chestnut...all notable musicians hailing from the Golden Triangle.

I lived two houses from Marcia. Her Dad was my Little League baseball coach.
And I graduated with Bobby Kimball, the lead singer for Toto.

That's cool. I didn't know Bobby Kimball was from the GT. My parents are from Port Arthur and my mother still has a H.S. yearbook with Janis Joplin, G.W. Bailey, and Jimmy Johnson in it. One J.J. photo features him with a crew cut in a 4-point stance. Pretty neat stuff. I think Tom Hicks (former Dallas Stars/Texas Rangers owner) might be in there too.

I was born in Orange, but raised across the Sabine in Vinton. I forgot about Jimmy Johnson. I used to run into him at the Big Oaks & Circle Clubs. He was a wise arse in the '60s.

Way to back it up with some facts.

I think Zappa started out in California, although he did count Johnny "Guitar" Watson and Gatemouth Brown as early influences.
