Yeah, I had forgotten about that one. Elvis, and those musicians, arrangement, and that production, took that song to whole other level. It was already a great song, but damn..thanx for adding that one, I haven't heard that in a long time.

I just listened to Dylan's original too, first time in a long time. I wouldn't want to have to decide, which one I like best.

The don Williams one, and The Sandy Denny one are both really good, but they were kind of middle of the road and what you expected on records back then. Everybody knows about Don Williams, and he is one of my favorites, but that Sandy Denny had a hell of a voice. Like a perfect mix between Emmy Lou Harris and Lacy J. Dalton.

The thing about Both Elvis and Dylan's versions though, they were both haunting sounding. Elvis did it with his voice, and Dylan did it with his phrasing( maybe his voice too, definitely unique and spooky sounding).

Whoever was doing the adjustments on those songs for Elvis back then ( it may have been Elvis) was a damn genius and earned the damn money.

This was also one that I really love. I always thought that I heard some heavy Sam Cook Influence in it. Maybe my imagination, because I'm a big Sam Cook Fan too.LINK
It reminded me of They Call The Wind Mariah.

Sounds more like Frankie Laine to me. Laine of course was the western theme song guy who did the original of "3:10 to Yuma"

But back to Elvis, this is one of my favorites of his lesser-known songs:

Personally, I was never too crazy about that one for Elvis. It's a good song and all, but I never thought it worked for Elvis. Seemed to me, that something about the Rhythm didn't work quite right. One of the very few, that he didn't slam out of the park. of course that's JMO.

I wish there were somebody like him, to pitch songs to these days. We don't have that anymore.
and I tell you man, you are one hell of a bonus on this board, Extremely Knowledgeable and good taste too, most of the time. I preciate ya.

well yeah. I'm well past the age of celeb crushes. But, when i got a little older i would make sure i had a good seat for shows like one day at a time, dukes of hazard... any movie with brooke shields.

at 10 i didn't get it. at 14-15 or so, i absolutely got it.

That’s a good one. It’s used beautifully in the Elvis Presley: The Searcher documentary on HBO. Must watch documentary for Elvis fans.

Such A Night. It’s quintessential.

Anything from his 1969 American Sound sessions in Memphis, produced by the late, great Chips Moman.
