He sure didn’t last very long after he announced he had esophageal cancer.
Using one of his two tickets to paradise.

Got a framed signed copy of his original LP, and Think I’m In Love was a standard for my first real band. Damn I haven’t felt this bad about a musician dying since Dio. frick.

Some hit harder than others. This one made he sad.
He just wanted to be a rock and star. (one of my all time favorites).

Sucks to have lost him before I was able to see him live. Sad to see he actually had a lone concert scheduled for September that now says "canceled."

We saw Eddie Money play The Rose Arena at Central Michigan University in 1980. Great show. He was my buddy's favorite artist.
After show we hit the local Holiday Inn lounge for drinks (not a lot of places in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan). Later Eddie walks in and the small joint erupts. So cool!

Nice. Eddie was super loyal to the Detroit area. I think he usually opened up the season here. Always seemed like a super cool guy, especially from some of the SiriusXM interviews over the last year or two. I seem to remember he said the "be my little baby" line was so gay he wanted no part of it and brought in Ronnie. Great decision for history's sake, I guess.

Well, I think it went - they wanted a girl singer to do that part. And someone (not Eddie) suggested they try to get Ronnie to do it. IIRC, she had not really reconnected with fans after slipping out from under Phil's grip and had not made anything like a comeback, sans Phil, yet.

Eddie thinking of her as this music legend of his youth responded something to the effect of, "What, she wouldn't want to do it would she?" And they asked and she agreed.

(ETA: I see the Wiki has a more in-depth story on it and Eddie's further recollections. Either my memory from 30 years ago is faulty or he was being more humble then.)

Petty hit me hard.

I enjoyed Money’s singles, though.

We're in the middle of a slow-motion, rock and roll Apocalypse right now.

Rock's heyday was from 1955 to about 1995 - 4 decades. The young pups who broke in the 1990s, primarily the Grunge (and associated) are all early 50s. And that's "rock" years, so, basically in 30 years every rock and roll act you've heard of will be dead, but we're on the climb now to a peak of 10 years when the absolute last of the 60s folks will be gone - Stones, Maca/Ringo, Roger/Pete, etc - I mean, even optimistically, those folks have 10 to 12 years, at most. And then we'll have a tidal wave of the 1970s folks.
