Saw him open for Son Volt, way back when and another time he played at the old Chelsea's and I barely made it in time.

Was that the time he got up and walked off the stage in the middle of the song, because people were talking too much/loud??
He was pissed, smoking a cigarette and talking to himself out in the parking lot..
I believe he played there twice though...

Hmmmm, I don't think so. This was around 2000 if I"m not mistaken. The Son Volt gig was in '97, for reference-sake.
